end of a {polaroid} era

polaroids by Grant Hamilton

Polaroid announced that after next year, Polaroid film will not be available anymore. *shock* There are not too many things that didn't get better, more convenient, smaller with the digital age. Polaroid is one of the few things that remained big + clunky + manual...but that was the beauty of it. Despite the old-school-ness of it, it was one of the most instantly gratifying things out there - take a picture and in minutes, having that tangible evidence in your hand. Without manipulation or fancy gear, it was a honest portrayal of what you saw in the viewfinder. People use it at their weddings to capture candid moments of happiness, law enforcement use it as unalterable evidence of "that moment", artists use it as a medium (such as above)...nonetheless, Polaroid's business was doomed by the popularity and desire of digital photography. Such a shame...
