freud and the elastic mind
Always drawn to exhibits that feature information design, I went to see "Design and the Elastic Mind" at the MoMA. There were some interesting pieces, including the retractable aluminum screen (top right) that reacted to the movement of the crowd in the room and an analysis of flight patterns of the US (middle right). But I really enjoyed the exhibit for etchings by Lucian Freud - yes, the painter grandson of Sigmund Freud. The way he captures the slightest of emotions in a person's face is amazing (bottom row). I especially loved the way he traced every minute detail of the skin and bone structure of bald men - it's basically a nude sketch of the head. This is the last week before it leaves...catch it while you can.Labels: movies + music + culture, new york city
