cut & paste nyc 2009
This weekend was NYC's Cut & Paste competition - a battle between designers for 2D design, 3D design and motion graphics. Auditioned talents in each field have 15 or 20 minutes to improvise a design in front of hundreds of people that follows a given theme {this year's were "homage," "freak out," "metamorphosis," etc}. As their WACOM tablets are projected for everyone to see, they are judged in their design, look, and technique. Lots of pressure, I have to think. Although I thought that last year's talent was better, it's still amazing to see the young talent out there and observe their skills. My favorite design {which didn't win!} was for the theme "homage," where the designer created a graphic of a Polaroid camera with a picture coming out that said "picture not found" with the missing image icon. Thought it was a smart and relevant graphic giving homage to the end of Polaroid film production. This summer NYC hosts a global competition between each of the winners of all the cities hosting Cut & Paste - should be good stuff!Labels: design, new york city
